Founded in 1862, The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Hong Kong and China Gas) was the first public utility in Hong Kong. Today it is one of Hong Kong's largest energy suppliers, with a world-class management team that is committed to leading-edge business practices. Over the past 140 years, Hong Kong and China Gas has grown with Hong Kong, making the transition from a gas company supplying fuel for street lamps to become a leader in the energy industry, providing uninterrupted gas supplies to residential and commercial customers throughout the territory.
Hong Kong and China Gas' core business in Hong Kong consists of the production and distribution of gas, the marketing of gas, the sale of gas appliances, as well as comprehensive after-sales services. With a pipeline network of more than 3,400 km, the company supplies town gas to over 1.7 million customers in the territory. In recent years, Hong Kong and China Gas has diversified its business into telecommunications, building services, engineering, as well as the exploration and utilisation of new eco-energies, among others.
Hong Kong and China Gas extended its gas business into mainland China in 1994. Currently, the Hong Kong and China Gas Group operates 120 projects across 20 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in the country. These include piped city-gas projects, upstream and midstream projects, water supply and wastewater treatment, natural gas filling stations, as well as a number of new eco-energy projects.
