After running as a passenger ferry operator for over 80 years, Hong Kong Ferry (formerly known as The Hongkong and Yaumati Ferry Company Limited) sold its passenger ferry business in January 2000. It retained five vessels to provide services of the carriage of dangerous goods vehicles and harbour cruise. It then focused its principal business on property development and investment in order to maximize the potential of its land resources, and to share significant synergies with Henderson Land. Hong Kong Ferry's other lines of business include the running of a hotel on Lantau Island, a travel agency and a shipyard.
