As the sole supplier of piped gas in Hong Kong, Hong Kong and China Gas serves approximately 1.65 million local customers on Hong Kong Island, in Kowloon, in the townships of the New Territories and north Lantau Island, and Hong Kong International Airport.

The search by Hong Kong and China Gas for suitable projects in mainland China in recent years has borne fruit. Towngas China Company Limited ("Towngas China"), a listed associated company of Hong Kong and China Gas is also engaged in the sale and distribution of liquefied petroleum gas and natural gas in mainland China. On a combined basis, Hong Kong and China Gas and Towngas China have a total of 67 piped city-gas projects, spread across 14 provinces / municipalities.

In addition to its mainstream operation of gas supply, Hong Kong and China Gas also participates in the local property business. Major project undertakings include its approximately 16% interest in the International Finance Centre, its 50% stake in the Grand Promenade development and also its interests in Grand Waterfront.
