Over the past 150 years, Hong Kong and China Gas has been growing with Hong Kong, making the transition from a gas company supplying fuel for street lamps to the current leading position in the energy industry in the greater China region, providing one of the safest and most reliable gas supplies to residential and commercial customers in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong and China Gas' core business in Hong Kong consists of the production and distribution of gas, marketing and sale of gas, the sale of gas appliances, as well as comprehensive after-sales services. With a pipeline network of approximately 3,700 km, Hong Kong and China Gas supplies town gas to over 1.9 million customers in the territory as at the end of 2020. In recent years, Hong Kong and China Gas is committed to developing new ECO energy and diversified businesses including telecommunications, information technology, civil and building services engineering and manufacturing businesses etc.
Hong Kong and China Gas extended its gas business into mainland China in 1994. As at the end of 2020, the Hong Kong and China Gas Group operated 436 projects (2019 year end: 406 projects, inclusive of city-gas projects re-invested by the Group's companies) across 27 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities on the mainland. These projects encompass upstream, midstream and downstream natural gas sectors, environmentally-friendly energy, smart energy, water sectors and city-waste treatment, as well as telecommunications.
