Henderson Land Offers Two Additional Sites to the Government for Building Temporary Cargo Transfer Yards Sites Loaned by the Group So Far Total 1 . 25 Million sq . ft .

As COVID-19 continues to ravage the local community, Henderson Land Group has been fully cooperating with the HKSAR Government’s anti-epidemic efforts in a united fight against the coronavirus. To assist the Government in maintaining a stable supply of goods from the Mainland to Hong Kong, the Group has offered the Government two parcels of land at Kam Pok Road, Yuen Long and at Tun Yu Road, San Tin, which occupy 400,000 sq. ft. and 300,000 sq. ft. respectively, for the construction of temporary cargo transfer yards to support the establishment of centralised cargo transfer points for non-fresh food items and other goods in Hong Kong. This follows a series of other sites loaned by the Group, including the former site of San Tin Shopping City of 400,000 sq. ft and the Kong Ha Wai Transitional Housing Project (Phase 1) site of 150,000 sq. ft. Since the onset of the fifth wave, the Group has offered four separate land plots occupying a combined total of 1.25 million sq. ft. to facilitate the Government’s implementation of anti-epidemic measures.

In addition, the Henderson Development Anti-Epidemic Fund (“the Fund”) has announced further donations to support the fifth wave relief efforts, having contributed approximately HK$20 million worth of anti-epidemic supplies thus far. The Group, in partnership with a number of local NGOs, has been distributing essential supplies to frontline medical workers, elderly homes and low-income families.

Commenting on the relief efforts, Dr. Peter Lee Ka-kit and Mr. Martin Lee Ka-shing, Chairmen of the Group, said: “The fifth wave of the COVID-19 outbreak has shown little signs of waning. And in order to help stabilise the supply of goods to Hong Kong, we are pleased to have offered more land sites to the Government. Thanks to the support from all parties, construction works on these sites have been expedited, with the goal of preventing cross-border transmissions and easing our nation’s anti-epidemic workload. For the past two weeks, we have listened to the needs of different sectors, including frontline medical staff who have been working tirelessly throughout the epidemic. For low-income families, they are under immense pressure because of the soaring commodity prices. We hope to do the best we can to provide timely assistance to these people, as well as other deserving groups in our society. The fight against the coronavirus hinges on the support of each and every one of us — only by working hand in hand can we put the epidemic behind us.”
