Henderson Land Rewards Elite Hong Kong Athletes with over HK$23.7 Million in Cash Incentives
In recognition of the Hong Kong, China Delegation’s admirable accomplishments at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and the 14th National Games of the People's Republic of China, Henderson Land Group held a Prize Presentation Ceremony cum Celebration Dinner for its “Henderson Land Commendation Scheme for Elite Athletes” yesterday (19 October 2021), awarding cash prizes totalling HK$23,725,000 to the athlete winners. The occasion honoured the numerous feats of sporting glory by the city’s returning athletes at the various Games.
Officiating at the ceremony was Ms. Teresa CHENG Yeuk-wah, Secretary for Justice, who was joined by honourable guests including: Mr. Caspar Tsui Ying-wai, Secretary for Home Affairs; Mr. Timothy FOK Tsun-ting, President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China; Mrs. Jenny FUNG MA Kit-han, President of the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled; and Dr. Trisha LEAHY, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Sports Institute. A total of 30 athletes were also in attendance including: Edgar CHEUNG Ka-long, Olympic champion in men’s individual foil fencing; Sarah LEE Wai-sze, Olympic bronze medallist and National Games gold medallist in women’s sprint track cycling; and LEUNG Yuk-wing, silver medallist in the boccia mixed BC4 pairs event and bronze medallist in the boccia mixed BC4 individual event at the Paralympic Games.
Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Mr. Martin LEE Ka-shing, Chairman of Henderson Land Group, said: “The whole of Hong Kong is incredibly proud of the remarkable achievements of our elite athletes. The fighting spirit, determination and passion they displayed throughout the Games have brought a timely boost of joy and positivity to our city. This year, in order to further extend our support to our athletes in their sports pursuits and to inspire more young people to tap into their full potential in the sports arena, Henderson Land has considerably increased the cash rewards offered under the ‘Henderson Land Commendation Scheme for Elite Athletes’. By doing so, we hope to take the lead in fostering local sports development and to encourage more people in our society to contribute further to that end.”
A grand total of HK$23,725,000 in cash incentives was presented to members of the Hong Kong, China Delegation at the “Henderson Land Commendation Scheme for Elite Athletes Prize Presentation Ceremony cum Celebration Dinner”.
