Booking for Public Free Visit of “A Light Among Us – Memorial Exhibition of Dr. Lee Shau Kee” at Cloud 39 at The Henderson

Henderson Land Development Company Limited (“Henderson Land” or “the Group”) (Stock code: 12) will be organising “A Light Among Us – Memorial Exhibition of Dr. Lee Shau Kee” to commemorate the life and legacy of the Group’s late founder. The exhibition will be held from 1 to 5 May 2025 at the rooftop ballroom Cloud 39 located at super Grade-A commercial development The Henderson. Admission to the exhibition is free and the public can now reserve free tickets online.

A four-chapter tribute to Dr. Lee’s legendary life

Dr. Lee Shau Kee served as the Chairman of Henderson Land from 1976 until his retirement in 2019. He is dearly remembered as a loving father and grandfather, a beloved boss, “Brother Four” to his friends and the endearing “Uncle Four” to the people of Hong Kong. The title of the exhibition is inspired by the classical Taoist text Tao Te Ching, in which Laozi wrote that one should “Blend with light, become one with dust” when explaining the nature of “Tao”. What he seemed to suggest was that “Tao” harmonises the light of all things and blends with dust, the tiniest of things. Like brilliance that appears ordinary, people with great achievements can live in harmony with others through humility and tolerance.

The exhibition is divided into four chapters, namely “Scaling New Heights”, “Laying the First Stone”, “Blessings Through the Generations” and “Quiet Nurturing”. For the first time, a selection of Dr. Lee’s personal items and photos will be displayed, revealing his close relationships with his family, friends and colleagues as well as cherished moments in his life. The exhibition will also feature a memorial garden where the public can pay tribute to Dr. Lee and reflect on his approach to life.

Chapter 1: Scaling New Heights – From Gold Apprentice to Property Mogul

The first chapter chronicles Dr. Lee’s entrepreneurial journey from a gold apprentice to a property mogul, showcasing precious items such as the gold scale from his family's gold shop in Shunde and a pocket watch he carried daily.

Chapter 2: Laying the First Stone – A Culture of Loyalty and Integrity

This part of the exhibition focuses on Dr. Lee’s leadership and management philosophy, recreating his office space in detail with publications from the early days of Henderson Land.

Chapter 3: Blessings Through the Generations – A Four-Generation Legacy

Through intimate family photos and anecdotes, Dr. Lee’s soft side as a devoted father and grandfather is unveiled. Meanwhile, heartfelt words shared by family members tell the story of the eminent Lee family that has now been passed down to the fourth generation.

Final Chapter: Quiet Nurturing – An Uplifting Light

The final chapter reflects on Dr. Lee’s philanthropic work from the 1980s. Thank-you letters from students and the Grand Bauhinia Medal he received in 2007 highlight his belief that “it is better to teach a man to fish than to give him a fish” and the far-reaching impact of his charitable works on society.

In addition to the exhibition, the Group has installed “Allium”, a large-scale ball-shaped flower sculpture by British artist Jenny Pickford, at the art garden next to The Henderson. Symbolising the enduring spirit of life and resilience, the permanently installation not only enriches the art garden but also serves as a landmark for remembering Dr. Lee.
