Henderson Land Supports the “Strive and Rise Programme” for the Fourth Consecutive Year Organises “Explore Central Yards” to Empower Youth in Preparing for the Future
Henderson Land Development Company Limited (“Henderson Land” or “the Group”) (Stock code: 12) has supported the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Strive and Rise Programme for the fourth consecutive year, working with partners across sectors to advance youth development. Recently, the Group organised two sessions of“Exploring Central Yards” activities, welcoming approximately 80 programme mentees and mentors. During these sessions, the Group shared insights into the planning philosophy, architectural and design highlights, innovative technologies, and key roles involved in the Central Yards, the Group’s flagship development on the New Central Harbourfront. The activities are designed to broaden the horizons of participating young people and provide inspiration for their learning journey and future career development.
Attending the event were Mr Chris Sun Yuk-han, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, Mr Augustine Wong Ho-ming, JP, Executive Director, Mr Yu Wai-wai, JP, General Manager of the Project Management (1) Department, Ms Cynthia Leung Mei-po, Chief Communications Officer at Henderson Land and Mr Huang Jiang, Executive Vice President of China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited. They demonstrated their support by engaging in interactive exchanges with the participating mentors and mentees.
Mr Chris Sun Yuk-han, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the HKSAR Government, remarked: “Henderson Land’s staunch support has provided the mentees and mentors of the Strive and Rise Programme with a valuable opportunity to visit the construction site of a world-class landmark project. Through this activity, participants gained first-hand insights into the delivery of large-scale projects, particularly in construction safety and technology application. I hope this experience will deepen their understanding of the construction and engineering industry and encourage more aspiring local young people to consider joining the sector, thereby bringing fresh talent and new impetus to Hong Kong’s future development.”
Mr Augustine Wong Ho-ming, JP, commented: “As young people are the future of society, it is essential to nurture them by broadening their horizons and building up their confidence, preparing them for what lies ahead. This is vital to Hong Kong’s future development. Through these activities, the Group aims to deepen students’ understanding of the development of Hong Kong’s major landmark projects and to provide them with initial exposure to the professional fields involved. We also hope the initiative will inspire them to think about their future paths in further education and employment, and to contribute to Hong Kong in various roles.”
Participating programme mentees and mentors also visited the temporary pedestrian passageway at Central Yards, which connects ifc mall and the Central Terminal Building. With guided explanations from designated representatives, the participants learned about the pedestrian passageway’s design features and artistic elements, thus gaining a deeper understanding of the project’s underlying planning philosophy.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Henderson Land. Looking ahead, the Group will continue to support the development of local youth through a variety of initiatives, nurturing more talent for Hong Kong and giving back to the community through meaningful action.
