Henderson Development Anti-Epidemic Fund Sanitises Hong Kong Public Transport Fleets and Donates Supplies to 70 Hubei Hospitals and Health Services Units

Henderson Development Anti-Epidemic Fund (“The Fund”), a privately-financed charity established by the Group’s Chairmen Dr. Lee Ka Kit, Peter and Mr. Lee Ka Shing, Martin, has announced the launch of a series of relief measures and schemes in Hong Kong and mainland China to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and alleviate its devastating impact on the community.

In Hong Kong, the Fund is providing long-acting nano photocatalytic sanitising spray for use in sterilising local public transportation fleets. Due to the large amount of vehicles involved, priority will be given to 4,350 minibuses which are among the most popular means of daily public transport. The Fund is working closely with various minibus associations and the sterilisation process will begin this week. The nano photocatalytic sanitising spray is internationally certified and tests show that it can kill 99.9% of viruses and bacteria and is effective for three months. It has been developed by Raze Technology, a local innovation and technology start-up.

The Fund will also provide the spray to 18,000 taxi drivers in Hong Kong, so that they can sanitise their vehicles. The spray will be available next week and the Fund is in discussion with taxi associations on the logistics arrangements for its distribution. Among other public transport fleets, KMB has already announced that it will purchase the nano photocatalytic sanitising spray to enhance compartment cleaning of its KMB and Long Win bus fleets. The Fund welcomes further collaboration with other public transport operators in Hong Kong such as the MTR and other public fleet operators, to ensure that more passengers can travel safely.

In mainland China, Henderson Development Anti-Epidemic Fund is donating 200,000 doses of detoxifying Chinese herbal medicine granules to 19 Hubei hospitals for some 26,000 patients suffering from COVID-19, to help speed up their recovery. The herbal formula is recommended by The National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine as beneficial for the lung and for overall wellness. The Fund is also supporting healthcare workers by providing 225,000 bottles of vitamin C and 460,000 energy bars. The nutrition supplies are being distributed through the Hubei Youth Development Foundation to 31 hospitals, mobile cabin hospitals, clinics, and 24 health and supporting services units in Hubei province, benefitting over 150,000 healthcare workers in total.

Commenting on the work of the Fund to-date, Dr. Lee Ka Kit, Peter, said: “Since the outbreak of this epidemic, we have been garnering resources and liaising with various organisations and government departments in Hong Kong and mainland China to provide the materials and support they need. The Henderson Development Anti-Epidemic Fund will continue to closely monitor the pandemic and will respond promptly to society’s needs. We want to work hand-in-hand with the community in these trying times in the hope of restoring our healthy, normal lives as quickly as possible.”
