Henderson Land Group Pledges Full Support for the City’s COVID-19 Relief Efforts by Donating HK$13 Million Worth of Anti-epidemic Supplies and Offering Sites for Anti-epidemic Purposes

With the spiralling fifth wave of COVID-19 infections in Hong Kong, the Central Government has offered the city its staunch support at this critical time. In light of that, Henderson Land Group would like to express its heartfelt gratitude and to pledge its full support for the HKSAR Government’s efforts in combatting the coronavirus.

Commenting on the situation, Dr. Peter Lee Ka-kit and Mr. Martin Lee Ka-shing, Chairmen of Henderson Land Group, said: “Given the raging COVID-19 outbreak, our city must make anti-epidemic work its top priority. As a member of the business sector, we hope to do our part in bringing timely assistance to those most in need in our society, as well as in offering our wholehearted support to the HKSAR Government by doing everything we can to fight the coronavirus, so that our lives will be able to return to normal soon. And when it comes to identifying suitable sites for anti-epidemic purposes in urban areas or in the New Territories, we will fully cooperate with the Government as and when needed.”

In response to the public’s urgent demand for COVID-19 relief materials, the Henderson Development Anti-Epidemic Fund (“the Fund”), a privately financed charity established by the Lees’ family, has announced a HK$10 million donation today to send anti-epidemic supplies to elderly homes and the underprivileged. For the first phase of the donation, the Fund has teamed up with The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon, to launch a scheme aimed at distributing anti-epidemic supplies such as basic medicines, food and sanitising products to 150 elderly homes, as well as to 5,000 low-income households whose members have tested positive for COVID-19 and are awaiting assistance at home, or whose members are currently undergoing home isolation. The scheme will give priority to elderly homes whose employees or residents have been diagnosed with COVID-19. The first batch of supplies will be delivered to 30 locations with confirmed cases tomorrow and this Saturday (18 and 19 February).

Furthermore, a dedicated service hotline will be set up to assist with cases concerning elderly homes and the underprivileged referred by the Social Welfare Department or NGOs. Enquirers can receive a special delivery of anti-epidemic supplies simply by providing certain basic information for registration. The scheme will also hire those faced with unemployment or underemployment to handle tasks related to logistics, distribution and packaging.

Ms. Alice Lau Oi-sze, Chief Executive of The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon, said: "Earlier this week, we received enquiries from more than 30 elderly homes with confirmed cases requesting our help. For the purpose of preventing further community spread, the staff members and residents at these facilities have been placed under self-isolation, and daily essentials like food and medicines are in short supply there as a result. People living in sub-divided flats where confirmed cases have been found are experiencing a similar situation, with daily necessities running out because of home quarantine. The Henderson Development Anti-Epidemic Fund couldn’t have come at a better time by providing these groups of people with the aid and support they so desperately need and deserve.”

In addition, to help the city get through these trying times, Towngas, an associate of the Group, will give away HK$3 million worth of anti-epidemic soup packets and shopping vouchers, while Home Market, a chain of not-for-profit convenience stores established by the Lee Shau Kee Foundation, will offer a 10% discount in all branches.

In the face of challenges ahead, the Group will spare no effort in supporting the Government’s anti-epidemic measures, mobilising its resources and everything in its power to join hands with the people of Hong Kong and to put up a valiant fight against the coronavirus.
