Henderson Land Welcomes Christie’s as First Anchor Tenant for Its New Flagship Development, The Henderson
Henderson Land Development Company Limited ("Henderson Land" or “the Group”) (Stock code: 12), one of Hong Kong’s leading property groups, today announced that The Henderson, its highly anticipated flagship commercial development at Murray Road, Central has signed a tenancy agreement with Christie’s, a world-leading art and luxury business.
As The Henderson’s first anchor tenant, Christie’s will occupy four office floors totalling about 50,000 sq. ft. Upon The Henderson’s completion, Christie’s Hong Kong office will move to the new complex in line with the company’s business expansion plans, and the new, larger space will be used for its first year-round saleroom and gallery space in Hong Kong.
Commenting on the landmark tenancy agreement, Mr. Lee Ka Shing, Martin, Chairman of Henderson Land Group, said: “We are delighted to welcome Christie’s as the first anchor tenant of The Henderson. This tenancy agreement has been concluded two years ahead of The Henderson’s completion and is a vote of confidence both in Henderson Land’s abilities as a world-class developer, and in Hong Kong as an international business hub with close financial integration with Mainland China.
“By working in close collaboration with some of the world’s leading businesses such as Christie’s, and great minds like Zaha Hadid Architects, which has designed The Henderson, we hope to take the lead in the business sector in enabling and driving post-pandemic economic growth,” added Mr. Lee.
Mr. Francis Belin, Asia-Pacific President of Christie's, commented: “We are very proud to begin this momentous new chapter in Christie’s history with Henderson Land Group. The establishment of our first year-round saleroom and gallery space at The Henderson provides us with the long-needed flexibility to be able to transform our sales and events schedule from two main seasons to year-round programming and to embrace opportunities for greater creativity and innovation. Designed to meet the unique business needs of an international auction house, our new spaces at The Henderson are ideal for Christie’s presentation of large-scale artworks, live auctions, private sales and educational programs. The Henderson’s unique and forward-looking design is itself a work of art, perfectly complementing the exquisite masterpieces that Christie’s offers across the globe. We look forward to The Henderson’s completion in 2023, and engaging collectors in Asia and beyond at our new headquarters in early 2024.”
