Henderson Land’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Targets Approved by the SBTi and Achieves Inclusion in Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI)
Henderson Land Development Company Limited (“Henderson Land” or “the Group”) (Stock code: 12) has consistently garnered international acclaim for its unwavering commitment to sustainability throughout 2024. The Group is pleased to announce two important sustainability milestones:
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved Henderson Land’s near-term, long-term and net-zero science-based emissions reduction targets in December 2024.
Henderson Land has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia/Pacific Index.
In line with the Group’s commitment made in 2022, we are delighted that our near-term, long-term and net-zero targets have been approved by the SBTi, joining 10,000+ companies worldwide in committing to carbon reduction goals. This significant milestone highlights our dedication to reducing our environmental impact and aligning with international best practices.
The SBTi is a collaborative effort involving the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI), Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It provides a framework for businesses to set science-based targets consistent with the Paris Agreement.
The Group is also developing a transition plan to outline our strategy for achieving greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets across scope 1, 2 and 3, with an emphasis on actions within our own operations and throughout our value chain.
Near-term targets:
The Group commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 42% by FY2030 from a FY2021 base year, and also commits to reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from capital goods, use of sold products, and investments 25% within the same timeframe.
Long-term targets:
The Group commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90% by FY2050 from a FY2021 base year. The Group also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from capital goods, fuel- and energy-related activities, use of sold products, downstream leased assets, and investments 90% within the same timeframe.
Overall net-zero target:
The Group commits to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by FY2050.
Furthermore, we are pleased to announce that Henderson Land has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia/Pacific Index for the first time, recognizing our long-term environmental, social and governance (ESG) business strategy and vision.
Henderson Land’s sustainability performance has improved significantly in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) over the years, achieving a score of 73 in 2024, which underscores our commitment to managing material ESG risks and opportunities. The Dow Jones Sustainability Asia/Pacific Index measures the performance of Asia-Pacific sustainability leaders, identified through the CSA. It represents the top 20% of the 600 largest companies in the Asia-Pacific developed region based on long-term economic, environmental and social criteria.
In addition, the Group has received a 5-star performance rating from the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB), an AA+ sustainability rating from the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA), and a Low-risk rating from Sustainalytics. Going forward, the Group will remain steadfast in collectively addressing the challenges of climate change and decarbonizing our city.
